Morocco Canyon Rappels
4 - 6 rappels
Rappel 1
Rappel 1 Anchor
The anchor will be hard to miss since it a cairn anchor a ways back from the edge. The webbing is extended to the edge for an easy pull. Make sure to inspect the anchor before the first person goes down to confirm that it is sturdy.
Overview
Rappel 1 drops you into the slot of Morocco Canyon and is located in the main part of the wash. The rappel itself is down a flute obviously carved by water.
Tips
Make sure the webbing extends over the edge for an easy rope pull.

Arch Downclimb
Length: 10 ft
Type of Rappel: Downclimb
More anchor information coming soon.
Overview
Right after the first rappel, you will encounter a short downclimb. Sometimes there will be a small pool of water at the bottom, but can be avoided by stemming over it. At the bottom of the downclimb there is a neat, small arch in the rock forming a natural bridge.
Tips
If someone in your group is uncomfortable downclimbing this section, a handline or short rappel can easily be set up by using the boulder in the watercourse or a meat anchor.

Rappel 2
Length: 25 ft
Type of Rappel: Standard
Rappel 2 Anchor
This rappel is anchored with webbing slung around a chokestone wedged in the slot.
Overview
This rappel is fairly awkward because it is in a tight slotted-up section of the canyon. The last part of the rappel opens up a bit with a small free-hanging section to the bottom of the canyon floor.
Tips
Stay as low in the crack as you can because there is a pinch point right before the free-hanging portion of the rappel. Those who are thinner will not have a problem getting through the pinch point.
Rappel 3
Length: 15 ft
Type of Rappel: Optional Downclimb
Rappel 3 Anchor
This rappel is anchored from webbing slung between boulders in the watercourse that extends over the edge.
Overview
This rappel can be downclimbed carefully. If you choose to rappel the drop, the rappel had an awkward start over the boulders but is straightforward after that. The canyon opens up for a bit after this rappel.
Tips
Watch your fingers as you go over the boulder if you are rappelling. It is easy to get them stuck underneath the rope if you are not careful.

Rappel 4 Anchor
This rappel is anchored from a tree about 15 feet back from the edge with webbing extending to the edge.
Overview
This rappel drops you into another slot section of Morocco Canyon after opening up for a bit.

Rappel 5
Length: 12 ft
Type of Rappel: Standard
Rappel 5 Anchor
Webbing wedged between a couple of boulders provides an anchor for this rappel.
Overview
This is another awkward start for a rappel. In fact, it's not much of a rappel as it is a slide down a rope while trying to maintain yourself upright.

Boulder Downclimb
Length: 6 ft
Type of Rappel: Handline/Downclimb
More anchor information coming soon.
Overview
There is a boulder in the watercourse that you can use a handline to go over. Or you can crawl under the boulder and lower yourself to the floor.

Rappel 6
Rappel 6 Anchor
This rappel is anchored from a deadman about 8 feet from the edge.
Overview
For this last rappel follow the crack down for the easiest route. From the bottom of this rappel head West to the exit.

Morocco Canyon Trip Reports
April 10, 2021
The canyon was very dry except for an ankle-deep pool nearing the last rappel. The water was avoidable by just jumping over it. All webbing seemed fairly new and in good shape. We did this canyon in under 2 hours with 5 people. This was another good canyon in the North Wash if you have some time to kill.
