Rappel 1 Anchor
Overview
Most any time you do this canyon, you'll have a crowd watching because Cassidy Arch is a popular spot to hike to. This rappel is straight-forward and is free-hanging for about half of the rappel.
Tips
Sit down facing the anchor and scoot off for an easier entry. There is a small shelf you can set your feet down on when you scoot off that is difficult to see from the top.

Rappel 5
Length: 42 ft
Type of Rappel: Optional Downclimb/Handline
More anchor information coming soon.
Overview
After this rappel/downclimb there is another short 6 ft downclimb.
Tips
Take your packs off and toss them down in front of you on this rappel/downclimb. This is a fairly easy but tight downclimb for the first section. The last 6 or 7 ft. of the downclimb feels a bit more exposed and is difficult because it's hard to see where you are placing your feet. Taller people will have an easier time with this downclimb. Shorter people may choose to use a handline or even rappel the whole thing.

Cassidy Arch Canyon Trip Reports
October 10, 2020
Great weather on our trip down Cassidy. There were some stronger winds at the top of the second rappel, but once we were in the slot, the wind disappeared. There was a spinning hanger on one of the bolts of the second rappel. We completed the canyon in less than 3 hours. Great canyon!

Got up early to do this canyon, and it paid off since it got hot later in the day. We did the canyon in a little over 3 hours since there was a large group ahead of us. This was a really fun canyon to do with some great views on the approach. Definitely something to do when you go to Capitol Reef.

This was a toasty approach with little shade. It was hot! Make sure to bring enough water. Once we got into the canyon, it was nice and cool. A couple of the bolted anchors through the canyon had a spinning hanger, but all webbing seemed to be in good shape. We did rappels 3, 4, and 5 as one rappel since they are really short and close together.

We had a group of 5 and we ran this canyon in about 3.5 hrs. car to car. We got an early start to beat the crowds and it was fantastic. We were the first ones up there. All webbing in the canyon was in good. Like most everyone else, we combined the third and fourth rappels, but on the fifth one, we downclimbed halfway and then just used the rope as a handline for the rest of the short drop. There was no water in the canyon, but there were some pretty muddy spots directly in the watercourse that were avoidable. We skipped the seventh rap by using the rickety old bridge. On the eighth and final rappel, we tried the suggested downclimb for a bit more fun. Great canyon!
